1.) how did Romes republic develop? The Roman republic, started when the early romans divided into 2 groups the: Patricians and Plebeians. Which the patricians were wealthy landowners, also they made up Rome's artisans, shopkeepers, and owners of small farms. Both men from the patricians and plebeians were in the Roman citizens. Also men from both groups had the right to vote and the responsibility to pay taxes and serve in the military. But however the plebeians had less social status. The two classes were forbidden to marry another person from a different class. The plebeians (plebs) were not able to hold public office.
3.)what was the relationship between the patrician & plebeians like?Well first of all the plebeians had less power then the patricians. So then the plebeians decided to take action and leave the city. Which the wealthy patricians were frightened when the plebeians said they were going to leave so the patricians agreed to give power to them. But then in 471 BCE the plebeians were able to set up their own body of representatives, which were called the Council of Plebs. The assembly elected tribunes who brought plebs concerns to the government attentions. The tribunes also got the right to veto. A lot of thing has changed between the patricians and the plebeians, but one that caught my eye is the people from different classes were able to get married.
5.)what were romes laws like? One of Rome's chief gifts the world was its system of laws. Rome's first code of laws was the 12 tables, which were adopted in about 451 BCE. But the laws were written, and the plebeians didn't like that so they demanded that the laws be put into writing. Which then patricians finally agreed, so they had the laws carved on bronze tablets. The 12 tablets became the basis for all future Roman laws. Which these laws only apply to citizens. So the Romans decided to make a collection of laws call Law of Nation which applied to citizens and non-citizens. Then they thought that the laws should apply to everyone equally by the same legal system which is called "Rule of Law" The Rule of Law was one of the key ideas that the Romans gave the world. And this is stil the basis of our legal system today.
7.)WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PUNI WAR? War #1: A war called the first punic war was started in 264 BCE, It was between carthage and Rome . Both of them wanted to control sicily. The romans who sent an army to sicily, tried to prevent carthage to takeover sicily but carthaginians already had colonies in that island . They fought on land but soon the romans thought they would need a navy to defeat the carthaginians, so they copied them and it lasted 20 years.
War #2: For the carthage loss of Sicily. carthage expanned into Spain. In that case that upsetted the romans, so they helped people in Spain to fight against carthage. For the romans punishment carthage send its greatest general Hannibul and its army witch included 46,00 men. He took elephants to travel on and traveled through the Alps, but the alps were very hard and dangerous to cross, so soon lost half of the army. But his army were still powerful, once they reached Italy. While hannibul reached Italy, the romans set up another army led by Scipio, and went to attack carthage, Hannibul had to go back to carthage to protect them but when he got there the romans already defeated the carthaginias. So carthage gave up Spain, it's navy, and had to pay a large fine. So in the end the Romans DEFEATED Hannibal and he "army", so pretty much Rome WON all of the wars. |
2.)how did romes government work?Rome as a 3-part, government. One group people enforces the laws, another group makes laws, and the third group acts like judges or interpreted the laws. The government had checks and balance, so that not one group get stronger then another. The top officials in Rome were consuls. Only 2 patricians were chosen for consuls each year. which they were the headed of the army and the government. Another important role in Rome's government is praetors. Which their main role was to interpret the law and to act like judges. But the most important part of Rome's is the senate. Which the senate was a select group of 300 patrician men, that have will serve for life, what!!!!
4.)who was cincinnatus?Cincinnatus was one of the best-known early Roman dictator. But he didn't start off as a dictator, first he was a farmer and was chosen to become a dictator when a powerful enemy army surrounded a Roman army. With Cincinnatus good repetation as a loyal and devoted citizen they thought he was the man for that kind of job(dictator). So when he was chosen he quickly got in to action and led the army, which they defeated the enemy. Cincinnatus knew that he didn't want to hve power of anything so in 15 or 16 he decided to returned to his farm. Soon after he did so, the citizens knew they had to take a responsibility to help the city to help prevent overpowering of another city.
6.)what was carthage? Rome faced a powerful rival in the Mediterranean area. Which is their enemy state called Carthage, in coast of North Africa. Which it had a great trading center. So they became the largest and richest city in the western Mediterranean.
8.) what are some other conquests of rome?Well after they defeated carthage they enslaved 50,000 people including men, women, and children! The romans burned carthage's villages and legend says they even spread salt on carthage land so they wouldn't have good fertilelizer. Carthage became a regional district and remained a trading center. Roman could go fight states in the eastern Mediterranean and, Macedonia was under the romans's rule, Greece became Roman, Roman had it first province in Asia.
