Italy is an important location in the middle of the mediterranean sea. Italy look like a high heeled boot. Which the heel points to Greece and the toe toward the island of Sicily. At the top of the boot are the Alps mountains , which keeps Italy separated from European land. Italy had a very similar landscape of Greece. Italy had much better farming land than Greece, cause Italy had large flat plains which were ideal fro growing crops. Historians know very little about the first people in Italy. But there is evidence that people from the north crossed the Alps Mountains, which the reason fofr them doing that is cause of the mild climate and rich soil in Italy. Which this stared a small but steady stream of newcomers settling in the hills and on the plains. And among these people were latin speaking people who built the city of Rome on the plain of Latium in central Italy.
why was the tiber river important to rome?
The Tiber River was important cause it, helped the Romans with water and a way to the rest of the Mediterranean world. Rome was built on 7 hills, and the Romans did this on purpose cause the hills were very steep which made it easier to defend the city against enemy attacks. Rome was also placed were is was easy for people to reach the Tiber River.

Historians don't really know exactly how Rome begun, but they think it started off with a tradition story about twin brothers named Romulus and Remus. Which to story goes like this as babies the twins were abandoned near the Tiber river. They were rescued by a she-wolf, then they decided to build the city. Which Remus made fun of the wall his brother was making, but in fury Romulus lashed out at his brother and ended up killing his brother. Then Romulus went on to be king of Rome.

The Etruscans played a major role in shaping Roman civilization. Early growth was mostly influenced by the Etruscans not the Greeks. Which thanks to the Etruscans they helped increased Rome's style, building in the villages. The Etruscans they lived north of Rome. The Etruscans then moved south and took control of Rome around 650 BCE. They were very skilled metal workers who became rich from mining and trade. Bu they had enslaved people do the heaviest work to make their own lives more comfortable. Their tombs had paintings of men and women feasting, dancing, and playing music. But sometimes the paintings showed bloody battle senses, which showed how much the Etruscans took pride in their military. So an time went on the Romans got tired of the way they were being treated and rebelled. Then they became a republic and they used an acronym SPQR which means ,Senatus Populus Que Romanusa- The Senate and the People of Rome.
WHY WAS ROME STRONG?
Rome was strong cause of their army. Which in early days every male that owned land have to serve in the army. The Romans had discipline that was very harsh, and deserters were punished by death. Which that caused to help mold the Roman soldiers into fighters who didn't give up easily. Which there were problems with the way they fought, which was exactly like how the Greeks fought. The Roman general soon realized that his way for fighting was too slow and hard to control, which lead to reorganized their soldiers into smaller groups called Legions. Which this Legions had 6,000 men in each Legion, then they were further divided into groups of 60 to 120 soldiers. The Legions quickly became able to cut through enemy lines. Legionaries were armed with short swords called gladius and and a spear called a pilum. ANd each unit(legion) would carry a tall pole topped with a symbol. And in battle standards helped keep the units together, and the soldiers could see them above the action.

had 2 options: You could vote, serve in government , free to run any local affairs but in order to be able to do that you would have to pay taxes, so they could give that money to the soldiers to help improve the army. Or you could join the romans and have full citizenship. Once people did one of these things the romans treated them well, because if they did they'd be loyal to the government. With the Roman rulers smart ideas of treating people well, which the republic grew more stronger and more unified.
